The government this week confirmed that free all-day bus travel for disabled people will be rolled out across England from April 2027 - but if you live in Staffordshire, including here in Gnosall, you don't have to wait.
Andrew Mynors, Staffordshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Connectivity, has confirmed that disabled residents in the county can already use their bus pass to travel free of charge at any hour of the day or night, seven days a week, as long as their journey starts in Staffordshire.
What you need to know
- If you hold a disabled person's bus pass, you can travel for free 24/7
- Your journey must start within Staffordshire to qualify
- The national scheme covering all of England follows in April 2027
The council says it sees accessible transport as a priority, with the aim of helping disabled residents lead independent lives and reach services and leisure facilities whenever they need to.
Staffordshire County Council is also running its Celebrating the Difference campaign this year, promoting existing tools and resources to make public transport more accessible and comfortable for people with any type of disability.
More details on the disabled concessionary bus pass are available on the Staffordshire County Council website.
