Dog fouling refers to the act of dogs defecating in public areas, such as parks, sidewalks, and communal spaces, without their waste being promptly picked up and disposed of by their owners. This can lead to hygiene and environmental concerns.
Why It's a Problem
Dog fouling is a problem for several reasons:
- Hygiene Risks: Dog waste can carry harmful bacteria and parasites that pose health risks to humans, especially children who play in affected areas.
- Environmental Impact: Left untreated, dog fouling can harm local ecosystems and water quality.
- Community Aesthetics: Unsightly dog fouling negatively impacts the appearance of our community, making it less pleasant for everyone.
Responsible Dog Ownership
As a responsible dog owner, you can help prevent dog fouling by:
- Carrying Waste Bags: Always carry waste bags when walking your dog to clean up after them promptly.
- Using Bins: Dispose of dog waste in designated bins or your household waste bin, never leaving it on the ground or hanging from trees.
- Leash Control: Keep your dog on a leash in areas where fouling is a concern, and ensure they are under control at all times.
- Education: Educate other dog owners about the importance of responsible ownership and waste disposal.
Dog Waste Bag Outlets
Cleaning up after your dog is an important part of being a responsible pet owner and to help keep our streets clean the Council provides free biodegradable dog waste bags at a number of outlets across the Borough. Although part of a free service, these bags are meant to be used as a Γ’β¬Λlast resortΓ’β¬β’ for emergencies only. Dog owners are required to source their own bags as a matter of course.
Look out for the yellow dog sticker in the window or take a look at the list of outlets published on the Stafford Borough Council website: https://www.staffordbc.gov.uk/...
