Report a Flood

If you spot flooding in or around Gnosall (or something that looks like it could cause flooding soon), reporting it quickly can make a real difference. It helps the right team get eyes on the problem, clear blockages, and reduce the risk to homes, roads and footpaths.

First things first - is anyone in immediate danger?

If life is at risk or a situation is urgent, call 999. For non-emergency flooding issues, you can usually report it online and it will be passed to the right authority.

Report flooding or a possible cause (the easiest starting point)

The UK government page below is a handy front door for reporting flooding or things that could lead to flooding (for example blocked drains, overflowing ditches, or watercourse issues). It guides you to the right place based on what is happening and where.

https://www.gov.uk/report-flood-cause

What to note before you report

  • Exact location (road name, nearest house number, landmark, or What3Words if you use it)
  • Whats happening: flooding now, rising water, blocked gully, collapsed verge, overflowing ditch, etc
  • When it started and whether it is getting worse
  • Any obvious cause (mud, leaves, debris, roadworks, damaged pipe, etc)
  • Photos can help if its safe to take them - do not enter floodwater

Who might deal with it locally?

It depends on what is flooding. The report you make via the government link should steer it to the right place, but these are the usual suspects:

  • Road gullies and drainage on main roads: often the county highways team (Staffordshire County Council)
  • Flooding linked to local land drainage, planning, or environmental health: Stafford Borough Council
  • Local updates and community info: Gnosall Parish Council

A couple of practical safety reminders

  • Do not drive or walk through floodwater - you cannot judge depth or whats underneath
  • Keep children and pets away from fast-moving water, ditches and swollen brooks
  • If water is near electrics at home, stay safe and get advice from your electricity network operator (in an emergency, call 999)
