Are you eligible for the 2026 Spring COVID-19 booster?

The NHS is offering a free spring COVID-19 vaccine to those most at risk in Gnosall - here's who qualifies and how to book before 30 June.

As spring arrives, protection from previous COVID-19 vaccinations may be fading for some people. If you or someone you know is among those most vulnerable to serious illness, the NHS is offering a free top-up vaccine this spring - and it's worth acting soon, as the programme closes on 30 June 2026.

Who is eligible?

The criteria are the same as last spring, and apply across all four nations of the UK. You qualify if you are:

  • Aged 75 or over (or turning 75 by 30 June 2026. You don't need to wait for your birthday)
  • A resident in a care home for older adults
  • Living with a weakened immune system (immunosuppression)

Note that care home staff and carers are not included this time around, as the spring programme is specifically targeted at those most at risk of severe illness.

Why does this matter?

Government data from last spring's programme showed that people who received the vaccine were around 55% less likely to end up in hospital with COVID-19 in the weeks following their jab. For residents in and around Gnosall, that's a meaningful level of protection -- especially for older family members or those with health conditions who may be more vulnerable.

How to book

The booking system opened on 7 April, with appointments available from 13 April. You don't need to wait for an NHS invitation -- if you're eligible, you can book straight away:

  • Book online via the National Booking System
  • Call 119 for free if you can't get online (translation services are available)
  • View the list of Covid Walk-In Vaccination Centres closest to Gnosall

Appointments are typically available at local pharmacies and GP practices, including those serving the Gnosall and Stafford area. The last appointments will be on 30 June 2026, with the final day to book being 29 June.

A few other things to know

  • You can have the spring vaccine as soon as three months after your last COVID-19 dose
  • Even if you've skipped previous vaccine offers, you can still get protected this spring
  • Most people don't need to catch up on missed doses, but your doctor may suggest an extra dose if your immune system is severely weakened

If you're eligible, please don't leave it too late - book your appointment as soon as you can.
