Crews from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service are continuing to dampen down hotspots at Cannock Chase today (Thursday 6 August) following a significant fire that broke out at around 2.30pm yesterday.
At its peak, 15 fire crews worked together to surround the blaze and prevent it from spreading further. While some have now been stood down, a large presence remains in the area to bring the incident to a safe conclusion.
Residents are asked not to be alarmed if they see fire engines heading towards Cannock Chase today - this is routine and does not mean the situation is getting worse.
As a precaution due to heavy smoke, people are still being advised to:
- Keep windows and doors closed
- Avoid the area until further notice
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service has thanked the public for their kind messages of support for the firefighters involved.
