If you regularly travel through Stafford or head towards the M6, you'll want to plan ahead. Work is due to start on 4 May on the A5013 Creswell Grove, close to junction 14 of the M6, and is expected to run for 39 weeks.
The works are part of the Stafford Gate scheme at Creswell, which will create a new junction and widen the road to serve a planned commercial development next to the motorway. The hope is that the development will bring new jobs and local facilities to the area.
What disruption should I expect?
From 11 May, a one-way system will be put in place on Creswell Grove in the direction of Eccleshall, and this is expected to remain in operation for most of the project. Other traffic management measures will also come into effect as work progresses.
Staffordshire County Council says:
- Warning signs will be put up ahead of any changes
- Signed diversion routes will be in place throughout
- Communities will be kept updated on progress
Why does this matter for Gnosall?
The A5013 is a key road connecting our area towards Stafford and the M6. Anyone heading into Stafford from Gnosall and beyond, or using junction 14 for longer journeys, could find their usual route busier or slower than normal. It's worth leaving extra time and keeping an eye out for diversion signs, especially during the first few weeks when the one-way system beds in.
Patrick Allen, cabinet support member for highways at Staffordshire County Council, said every effort would be made to keep disruption to a minimum, while ensuring the work is carried out safely and as quickly as possible.
