Sarah Day, who lives right here in Gnosall, launched her baking business Baking at No42 during the 2020 lockdown after being furloughed from her care home job. While it helped her cover the bills, there was little left over, and she began to wonder whether it was worth carrying on.
That changed when she came across another baker on social media who had turned a garden shed into a sales unit. Inspired, Sarah took the plunge last June.
"It wasn't till June last year I took the gamble. I brought myself a shed, painted it, made it look all pretty and just went for it," she said.
Things have been baking so well that Sarah has been featured on BBC News today at https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cp9ljm7511eo
How it works
The shed opens on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Customers can pay using an honesty box or scan a QR code if they don't have cash, and cameras are in place for security. Sarah says the close-knit nature of the village has made all the difference.
"I'm so lucky with the village we live in. Pretty much everybody knows everybody and it's trustworthy," she said.
The venture has proved a hit, with some customers reportedly turning up in their pyjamas to grab her bakes. Regulars keep coming back week after week, and new faces continue to appear.
A holiday to look forward to
The biggest reward? Sarah has now booked her first ever summer holiday abroad for her two boys, something she says simply wouldn't have been possible without the shed.
LoveGnosall would love to congratulate Sarah on her brilliant achievement.
