Whether your child plans to walk, cycle, take the bus or travel by car, the move to a new school often means more independence on the roads - and that can bring new risks.
Staffordshire Safer Roads Partnership (SSRP) has put together guidance for parents and carers to help children build the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to travel safely before September arrives.
Questions to go through with your child
- What is the safest route to and from school?
- Where are the safest places to cross the road?
- Who will they travel with?
- Are there any hazards on the route, and how would they deal with them?
- Do they have any worries about the journey?
Working through these questions together over the summer can make a real difference to how prepared and confident your child feels on that first day.
