Local hospitals score 'about the same' in national survey

Gnosall's closest hospitals have been rated 'About the same' as most other NHS trusts in a major national inpatient survey.

Residents from Gnosall who use Stafford and Stoke hospitals have been part of a survey to find out what they think about the service provided at the hospitals.

The results of the survey have been published today by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The CQC has published results from its national inpatient survey that took place last year, which gathered feedback from people who spent at least one night in hospital during November 2025. University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM), which runs County Hospital in Stafford, was among the 130 trusts assessed.

445 patients at UHNM responded to the survey, out of 1,250 invited to take part between January and April 2026. Each answer is converted into a score out of 10.

Overall, the trust received an 'About the same' rating when compared with most other trusts nationally.

How did the trust perform?

Here is how UHNM scored across the key areas:

  • Doctors: 9.1/10 - the highest-scoring area, covering how well doctors answered questions, inspired confidence, and included patients in care discussions
  • Nurses: 8.5/10 - covering similar ground, plus whether there were enough nurses on duty and how well staff communicated with each other
  • Basic needs: 8.4/10 - covering help with washing, eating, drinking, and taking medication
  • Sleep and environment: 7.9/10 - covering noise, lighting, temperature, and ward cleanliness
  • Admission: 7.4/10 - the lowest-scoring area, covering waiting times and the quality of information given before admission

The admission experience was the weakest area, though all scores sit within a broadly positive range. The trust's overall rating of 'About the same' means it is performing in line with the majority of NHS trusts across England.
