Chief Inspector Saqib Butt, who stepped into the role in March 2026, is making it clear that community policing is his priority. With 23 years of experience spanning neighbourhood policing, counter terrorism and organised crime, he has spent his early weeks meeting residents, businesses and local partners to understand what matters most to people across the Stafford area.
His focus areas are straightforward:
- Anti-social behaviour
- Shoplifting
- Drug-related crime
- Robbery
He says the aim is to target those causing the most harm. Victims, he stresses, are central to everything his team does: "When someone calls us, it matters, and it's our responsibility to listen, take it seriously and support them."
Chief Inspector Butt is also leading from the front. He recently detained a suspected motorcycle thief while out on patrol himself, something he says reflects his commitment to staying connected to frontline work.
"Stafford is a great place to live and work," he said. "I want the community to feel confident in coming to us when they need help, knowing they will be listened to and supported."
