Stafford Morris and the Ironmen Severn Gilders Morris are returning to The Horns Inn on Hugh Street for what promises to be another lively evening of traditional English folk dance.
About the teams
Stafford Morris is a mixed Cotswold-style team, performing at festivals, fairs and local events across Staffordshire and Shropshire, with a reputation for high-energy routines featuring music, sticks and plenty of laughter.
The Ironmen and Severn Gilders Morris side was formed in 1976 and is based near the Ironbridge World Heritage Site in Shropshire. Both teams wear wooden-soled clogs with small bells, though each follows a different tradition.
- The Ironmen paint their faces in red and black stripes and perform lively Border Morris dances, clashing sticks as they go.
- The Severn Gilders, named after the Coalport China painters of the area, carry ribboned bobbins and weave the intricate patterns of North West Morris.
The two teams also come together for joint performances during the evening.
Come and join in
The event is free to attend. Just turn up, grab a drink and enjoy the atmosphere. It is a great chance to support performers who work hard to keep these traditions alive, and to catch up with friends and neighbours.
