The new driveway at Gnosall Family Sports and Social Club is to be named Sam Myatt Way, in lasting memory of a beloved local figure Sam Myatt, a 20-year-old local resident who tragically lost his life in a road traffic collision in January 2019.
The community, alongside AFC Gnosall and the Sports and Social club have undertaken fundraising efforts to resurface and restructure the primary access driveway leading to the club, to create a more welcoming environment for families, players, and club visitors. The project was made possible through fundraising and donations from members of AFC Gnosall, the Sports and Social Club, and John Forrester.
The official ribbon-cutting ceremony takes place at 12pm on Saturday 26 September at the club's ground, shared with AFC Gnosall.
A celebration for all the family
After the ceremony, everyone is invited to stay for an afternoon of community fun, including:
- Bouncy castles for children
- Games for all ages
- BBQ food
All are welcome to come along and mark this special milestone.
Keeping the Legacy Alive
In addition to the roadway, Sam's memory continues to be honoured within local sports activities. The annual Gnosall 10K road race features the Sam Myatt Trophy, which is awarded every year to the fastest young finisher aged 20 or under.
