Two major events are happening in Staffordshire this week - LIV Golf at the JCB Golf & Country Club in Rocester (Thursday to Sunday) and Ladies Day at Uttoxeter Racecourse on Friday. With Alton Towers nearby and school holidays under way, roads in the area could be significantly busier than usual.
Roads to watch
Staffordshire County Council has highlighted several routes likely to see heavier traffic, including the A50, A515, A518 and A522. The council is encouraging drivers to plan ahead before setting off.
Getting to LIV Golf
LIV Golf has set out specific motorway exit points for those driving to the Hollington Road venue:
- From the M6 south - exit at junction 15 onto the A50/A500
- From the M1 north - exit at junction 28 onto the A38/A52
- From the M1 south - exit at junction 24 onto the A50/A515
Black and yellow event signs will guide drivers to the venue and their pre-purchased car park.
Getting to Uttoxeter Racecourse
The racecourse on Wood Lane has also suggested routes depending on your direction:
- From the north west - M6 to junction 15, then follow signs for A50 Uttoxeter/Derby
- From the north east - M1 to junction 24a, straight onto the A50 following signs for Uttoxeter/Derby
- From the south and south west - M5 (junction 4a) or M40 (junction 3a) to M42 (junction 7), exit at junction 9 for Lichfield, follow the A38 and exit at A50 for Uttoxeter
Uttoxeter railway station is right next to the racecourse, and there are connecting train services from Derby, Stoke-on-Trent and Crewe for those who would rather avoid the roads altogether.
What's on
Ladies Day promises racing, a best-dressed competition with a top prize of £500, and an evening set from DJ Marvin Humes. LIV Golf, meanwhile, features 57 players across 13 teams competing over 72 holes across the four days.
