The NHS trust that runs Royal Stoke University Hospital and County Hospital in Stafford has warned that some services cannot run normally due to the intense heat and humidity.
University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM) says a number of MRI scanners and operating theatres have been affected, along with pathology services. Some outpatient appointments are being postponed and rescheduled as a result.
Chief operating officer Katy Thorpe confirmed that urgent and emergency patients are being prioritised, and that anyone whose appointment has been rearranged will be contacted directly.
Pathology appointments at Bradwell, Bentilee and Meir are being moved to alternative locations to keep services safe and effective.
Thorpe added: "We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience and understanding."
The Royal College of Physicians has also raised concerns nationally, saying staff are under severe pressure, with very few hospital settings having air conditioning. Dr Hilary Williams, the college's clinical vice-president, said there is "a sense of foreboding" among medical teams when hot weather is forecast.
If you have an upcoming appointment at either hospital and haven't heard anything, it's worth contacting the hospital directly to confirm it is going ahead.
