Whether you fancy writing a short story, a poem, or even just six carefully chosen words, the Staffy's Tales competition is your chance to get creative. Entrants are invited to pick their favourite Staffy sculpture from the county's art trail and bring it to life through writing — exploring what the dog has seen, who has visited, and what makes its home town special.
Who's behind it?
The competition is led by Chloe Breeze, the local artist who designed 'Sonney', the Staffy sculpture based in Hanley Park, alongside Pearl Knight-Dutton, Staffordshire's current Young Poet Laureate. The pair will judge the entries together.
Pearl said: "You don't have to be a brilliant writer to create something that speaks to people. A small number of words can often speak just as loudly as far more."
How to enter
- Write a short story or poem of up to 250 words, or a six-word story
- Base your entry on any one of the eleven Staffy sculptures on the trail
- Email your entry to staffy@staffordshire.gov.uk by 5pm on Wednesday 8 July
What can you win?
A winner will be selected for each of the eleven sculptures, with the best entry receiving a free family day out. Winning pieces will also be published on the Visit Staffordshire website.
The Staffy Trail has already attracted an estimated 6,000 visitors and generated around £180,000 for the local economy — so it's well worth a visit if you haven't explored it yet.
